Dick Lambert was County’s First Civil War Casualty

A Lawrence countian who gave his life for his county in the Battle of Scarey, WV in 1861 was later honored when the present Dick Lambert Post, National Woman’s Relief Corps, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, selected a name for its organization in 1886. Richard Lambert enlisted in the cause in 1861. Only July 17 of that year he was killed. It was Ironton’s first casualty. Today his body rests in beautiful Woodland cemetery and his memory is carried on by the Woman’s Relief Corps, 115.
