Workers at Kelly’s Coal Mines

Workers at Kelly’s Coal Mines

Submitted to the Lawrence Register Facebook group by Ralph Richey. The post reads: “Here is a list I compiled from the diaries of my Great-great.grandfather Charles H. Ralph. He lived in Ironton from 1880 until his death in 1917. He weighed the coal mined at the Kelley Mine until the mill changed to gas power in 1911. He wrote something almost every day. He often noted deaths, marriages and births. Unfortunately, most of the diaries were lost in the 1937 flood, but I have some fragments. This might be a help to those looking for death dates before the state began keeping records.”
