Ironton’s First Brick Street

Oldest Street Is Given New Dress

Upper Third Was Constructed During Year 1893

Submitted by Peggy A. Wells

Third street, the first brick street laid in Ironton, will take on a new dress soon as plans are being completed for pouring of asphalt on the stretch between Adams and Pine.

The original pavement was placed in 1893 by Contractor Cisco and Ironton made brick was used. The street car section was rebuilt in 1924.

Brick taken from the street during the resurfacing program was found to be in excellent condition, forming an ideal base for the asphalt pavement.
